  • Gram lentil 250 gm
  • Sev 250 gm

For Seasoning :

  • Oil 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds ½ tsp
  • Ginger green chili paste 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice 1 tsp
  • Coriander seeds ½ tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Pomegranate kernels 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves 1 tbsp
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • All spices powder ½ tsp

Soak gram lentil for 5-6 hours, drain water and grind coarsely. Cook till done. Heat oil. Add mustard seeds. Let it splutter, add ginger chili paste, salt, sugar and lemon juice. Mix in ground gram lentil and stir well for 10-15 minutes and cook till oil is separated. Garnish with lots of sev, coriander leaves and pomegranate kernels.


  • Gram flour 2 cup
  • Baking soda 1/4 tsp
  • Carom seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric 1/4 tsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Salt 1/2 tsp
  • Oil to deep-fry

Mix the gram flour, baking soda, carom seeds, turmeric, 1 tbsp oil and salt together. Add water and knead into soft dough. Take a portion of the dough and place it on a greased surface. With base of your palm, drag the dough in a straight line, holding the dough at the starting point with the other hand. This will form a strip. Fry these strips in hot oil over medium heat till crisp.


  • Coriander leaves 2 tbsp
  • Mint leaves 2 tbsp
  • Ginger chopped 2 inch piece
  • Green chilies, chopped 4
  • Yogurt ¼ cup
  • Gram flour 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Black salt ¼ tsp
  • Citric acid ⅛ tsp
  • Water 1 ½ cups
  • Oil 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder ¼ tsp

Make smooth paste using coriander leaves, mint leaves, ginger and green chilies. In a bowl, mix gram flour, yogurt, salt, black salt and citric acid. Use a whisk and add enough water to make a thin batter and keep it aside. Heat oil. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then immediately mix in yogurt mixture. Add turmeric powder, mix and let the mixture come to a boil. Simmer for few minutes or until it becomes thick. Mix in the green paste. Serve the fafda chutney with fafda.
