If you want to eat something light yet delicious for dinner, then you must try this protein-rich recipe of Daal Khichdi.

Ingredients:

  • Beef mince                                       250 gram
  • Spilt red gram                                    ¾ cup
  • Split red lentil                                         ¼ cup
  • Split Bengal gram                            2 tbsp
  • Split yellow gram                                4 tbsp
  • Water                                                3 glasses
  • Turmeric                                           ½ tsp
  • Chopped coriander                        as required
  • White cumin                                    ½ tsp
  • Chopped tomatoes                        1
  • Chopped onion                               2 tbsp
  • Basmati rice Soak                           1 cup
  • Salt                                                     as required
  • Oil                                                       as required
  • Ghee                                                  1 tbsp
  • Sliced onion                                     1
  • Salt                                                     2 tsp
  • Bay leaf                                             1
  • Curry leaves                                     few
  • Crushed garlic                                 3 tbsp
  • Chopped green chilies                  2-3
  • Chopped tomatoes                        2
  • Salt                                                     as required
  • Red chili powder                            1 tsp
  • Coriander powder                          1 tsp
  • Cumin powder                                ½ tsp
  • All powder                                       ½ tsp
  • Dried fenugreek                             1 tsp
  • All spices powder                           ½ tsp
  • Other Ingredients
  • Asafetida                                          ½ tsp
  • All spice powder                             1 tsp
  • Water                                                ½ cup
  • Whole red chilies broken             2
  • Green chilies slit                             2
  • Turmeric                                           ½ tsp
  • Coriander leaves                             fist full
  • Julienne cut garlic                          4-5 cloves
  • Cumin                                                ½ tsp
  • Water                                                3 glasses
  • Chopped coriander                        ½ bunch

 

 

Ingredients for tempering:

  • Clarified butter                               ¼ cup
  • White cumin seeds                        1 tsp
  • Garlic cloves                                    4-5
  • Button red chilies                           4
  • Sliced green chilies                         3
  • All spice powder                             ¼ tsp

 

 

Method:

  • Boil rice with salt till it’s done. Strain it and keep it aside.
  • In a pressure cooker add the soaked pulses along with 3 glasses of water, turmeric, some chopped coriander, cumin, tomato, chopped onion.
  • Pressure cook on high heat till first whistle and put the stove on low heat for 7-8 minutes.
  • Mash the pulses lightly and keep aside.
  • Take a big vessel, add some oil, fry onion till its golden brown and remove it.
  • In the same oil add clarified butter, a bay leaf, few curry leaves, chopped garlic, chopped green chilies and sauté well.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and salt and cook till its soft .
  • Add red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder , all spice powder , dried fenugreek and sauté well .
  • Add the cooked pulses and rice.
  • Then add a bit of chopped coriander, water if needed and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  • Lastly add in the juice of half a lime, fried onion and switch off heat.
  • Sprinkle lots of chopped coriander on the khichdi for garnishing.
  • Now in a small vessel heat lots of clarified butter, add asafetida, whole red chilies, green chilies slit from the centre longitudinally, 4-5 cloves of garlic-sliced , cumin, fry till it turns golden and switch off heat.
  • Stir in red chili powder and pour on the coriander you had spread on the khichdi , and serve hot.
