  • Spinach 1 gram
  • Fenugreek ½ kg
  • Potato ½ kg
  • Green chili 10
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Red chili (whole) 10
  • Cumin 1 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Garlic 6 pieces
  • Mustard oil 1 cup
  • Tomato 1 gram


On hot oil add garlic, whole red chilies, and cumin. Now add the potato, fenugreek, and spinach and cook on high flame. Then add in tomato, green chili, turmeric, salt and mix. Then cover for 10 minutes. Once the potato0es soften, switch the stove off.



  • Lemon 1 gram
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric 2 tsp
  • Salt 2 tsp
  • Finely chopped ginger 1 tbsp
  • Garlic 1 tbsp
  • asafetida 1 pinch
  • Fennel seed 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seed 1 tbsp
  • Nigella seed ½ tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds 1 tbsp
  • Brown sugar 1 tbsp
  • Oil ½ liter
  • Carom seed 1 tsp


Wash and thinly cut the lemon. Add salt and keep aside. Grind all whole spices. Heat up half the oil and fry the ginger garlic and then switch the stove off. Then add in all spices and lemon and mix well. Now in a jar add the lemon, spice mixture, and oil and mix.


  • Boiled split black gram ½ kg
  • Tomato ½ grams
  • Onion 1
  • Red chili powder 2 tsp
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Cumin 1 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Ginger, garlic 1 tbsp
  • Ground spices powder 1 tsp
  • Ginger (thinly cut) as needed
  • Oil 4 tbsp
  • Chapatis for serving

For ‘tarka’:

  • Clarified butter ½ cup
  • Whole red chili 10
  • Cumin 1 tsp
  • Garlic 1 tbsp
  • Green chili, coriander for garnishing


Heat oil and sauté the onions. Now add tomatoes, red chili, turmeric, salt, cumin, ginger, garlic and cook the mixture. Now add in the boiled split black gram and mix well. After it cooks, add the thinly cut ginger, green chili, and coriander. For the tarka, take the clarified butter and combine with all the other ingredients. Now pour over the ready lentil. Sprinkle the ground spices powder and serve with the chapatis.
