  • Beef undercut strips ½ kg
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Bread rolls 4
  • Onion (sliced) 1
  • Cheese slices 4
  • Capsicum (sliced) 1
  • Mushrooms (sliced) few
  • Jalapeno slices few
  • Lettuce as required
  • Tomato 1
  • Mayonnaise 2 tbsp
  • Mustard 1 tbsp
  • Tabasco sauce 1 tbsp


Season beef strips with salt and pepper. Heat oil. Add in sliced onion and sauté until soft. Remove and set aside. Add beef into the pan and sear. Add in onions and any of the above ingredients. Reduce heat to low and add cheese. Let melt then transfer to bread roll. Serve immediately.

Ingredients for the Cake:

  • Flour 225 gm
  • Baking powder 1 tsp
  • Baking soda ⅛ tsp
  • Salt ½ tsp
  • Walnuts (chopped) 100 gm
  • Unsalted butter 255 gm
  • Caster sugar 225 gm
  • Eggs 4
  • Vanilla essence 1 tsp
  • Coffee 1½ tbsp
  • Hot water 1 tbsp
  • Milk 3 tbsp

For Coffee Glaze:

  • Unsalted butter 1 tbsp
  • Icing sugar 100 gm
  • Coffee 1 tbsp
  • Hot water 1 tbsp
  • Walnuts to decorate


Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir in the chopped walnuts. Dissolve instant coffee granules in hot water. Stir in the milk. Beat butter and sugar until light Add eggs, one at a time, fold half the flour-walnut mixture into the butter mixture, followed by ½ of the coffee-milk solution. Do not over-mix the batter. Fold in the remaining flour mixture, followed by the remaining coffee solution. Add the vanilla essence. Pour batter into greased and lined pan and bake at 180 degrees C for 30-40 minutes. Remove from the oven once done and leave the cake in the pan to cool completely. Once the cake is completely cool, make the coffee glaze. To make the coffee glaze, dissolve coffee in hot water. In a bowl, cut the butter into icing sugar with a spoon. Once the mixture resembles breadcrumbs, stir in the coffee solution, bit by bit, until you get a thick but pourable consistency. If you want the glaze more firm, add more icing sugar. Drizzle over the cake, and sprinkle walnuts over the top. Allow the glaze to firm up.
