Importance of Eating Vegetables

Vegetables are an important part of your daily diet. They are naturally good and contain vitamins and minerals that can help keep you healthy. Research shows that they can also help protect against some diseases. Most people will benefit by eating more fruits and vegetables as part of a normal, balanced diet and a healthy and active lifestyle.

Vegetables are naturally low in calories and fat. the use of vegetables helps prevent heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer, and deficiencies of important vitamins and minerals. It is estimated that people in the world consume only between 20% and 50% of the minimum recommended.

Vitamins, minerals and other components of the plants are essential for health. For example, the fiber contributes to transit through the digestive tract and reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, vitamins and minerals help to maintain good health, and photochemical have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. They promote good digestion of other nutrients, increases bowel volume, which helps to control appetite.

When choosing vegetables, remember that, in general, colorful vegetables are higher in nutrients than the less vivid choices. For example, spinach contains many more vitamins and antioxidants than lettuce. If we were to present all sources of nutrients that vegetables have we would be hours to read about it. The fruits and vegetables are low in fat, salt and sugar and provide a good source of dietary fiber.
